Bella is sick today so Jackson had to ride the bus this morning all by himself. He didn't mind at all. I, on the other hand, was a little nervous.
I take for granted sometimes that he has his 2 big sisters to look out for him especially Bella. She's so good with him that when he grabs his Spongebob backpack and heads out the door, I don't have to worry about whether he will be sad or scared because big sister Bella is there holding his hand, checking his backpack to make sure he has his snack, and letting him sit next to her on the bus even if she really wants to sit next to her friends.
This morning we sat on the curb reviewing his sight words and when the bus pulled up I suddenly got a case of "ihatekindergartenitis." I wanted to say "I hate kindergarten. It's boring. Don't go to school today just stay home with me." But he popped up all excited and then happily ran across the street after the bus driver signaled it was safe to do so. I wanted to skip next to him just to make sure he found a seat ok but he was fine.
I walked along the sidewalk as he walked down the bus aisle looking for a seat and then I waved until the bus was out of sight. And then I got a little misty eyed ~ my little boy is growing up. And then I thought of my sweet husband and his own mom. How after every visit is over, we pack up the car to head home and how she stands in the front yard and waves until we are out of sight and how much I love her for that.
And then I wonder if she ever had "ihatekindergartenitis" too.
